Exciting fare on cards in Central dogfights
THE sixth Edition East London Central LFA Premier League may only be two weeks old but the thrilling and unpredictable battle for supremacy has already reared its head as the North End football connoisseurs gear themselves up for another spectacular title race.
CC Lloyd-based Seagulls has taken the season by storm having already bagged the Premier Top 8 and Easter Tournament Platinum silverware.
They are currently unbeaten in the league and in second place with only goal difference separating them and the table-toppers.
Their 34-year-old coach Sheldon Marrilier – in his debut campaign as a Seagulls tactician – has rightly landed most of the plaudits after he was voted EL Central’s top coach for the month of March for producing a phenomenal turnaround in his side’s fortunes.
Scenery Park-based Millan have leapfrogged to the top of the standings, the only other unbeaten side – a remarkable achievement given it is their maiden campaign in the North End top tier.
The attention however shifts to the main game on Sunday at 4pm when old rivals Star of India and Pride of India clash in the most sought after Braelyn derby on the North End football calendar
Stars are currently in third place having won and drawn their opening league fixtures while Prides two draws see Prides are in eighth place on the table.
Di Roma and Parkside United square off in the main curtainraiser at 2.30pm and Brothers of Peace have the unenviable task of trying to lower the green and white colours of the irrepressible Seagulls at 1pm.
Bottom side Napoli also face a daunting task as they take on fifth placed Swaraj at 11.30am. On Saturday Atlantic Spurs lock horns with Conquerors at 3pm and the defending champions Riverside have an opportunity to revive their profound flagging season when they host Millan at 4.30pm.
Based on reputation alone, the mighty blue train is expected to always feature at North End’s top table.
East London Central LFA continue with the third edition of John Korkie First Division this week at the North End Stadium. Table-toppers Saints entertain Leeds United today at 8pm and Alphen Warriors take on Imonti Christian Centre at 6.30pm.
On Sunday K-Way battle it out with Real Dukashe at 10.15am.
Youth league fixtures continue on Saturday at North End and at the Showgrounds.
