Roar of thunder as hot bikers get all revved up

THE East London Grand Prix Circuit is set to be a hive of activity this weekend as the third round of the 2018 SuperGP Champions Trophy takes centre stage, bringing some breathtaking motorbike action to the city.

The exciting event is being hosted in conjunction with the ever popular Africa Bike Week which will be held on the East London beachfront from tomorrow until Sunday.

“It has worked really well for the whole of Buffalo City having these two events held here,” said Border Motorsport PR Dave Kirkman.

“The Africa Bike Week obviously brings a lot of tourism with it and it has put the development that we are doing with the Buffalo City Municipality on the map.”

This is the second year that the SuperGP has linked with the bike week and should bring a host of motorracing fans to the track to enjoy what should be two thrilling days of action on Friday and Saturday.

“Every year this event brings fantastic racing to the track, the race is also live-streamed around the world which adds an international audience to proceedings,” added Kirkman.

“For local fans it is really worth coming out and seeing it in person as this is international standard racing that is taking place and well worth coming out for the day.”

The main category to be raced over the event will be the premier SuperGP national championship category which will see some of the country’s best riders battling it out for supremacy.

In the three races over the previous two rounds a different winner has been seen each time, which should lead to more of the same this weekend with some great racing around the notoriously fast circuit and no firm favourite leaving the race wide open.

The other two major races will be the Super600 and Super300 categories, which are also expected to be classic affairs.

“We expect a good crowd over the two days, with a large number from the bike week expected to come out and be a part of the action,” said Kirkman.

There will be practice, qualifying and one of the races on Friday, while Saturday will see a warmup session get the day started, with the main action then seeing two races for each category battled out.

Entry for the day will cost R100 for adults, R10 for scholars and children under six years old will be allowed in for free.

Tickets will be available at the gate or online at where you can also find more info on the event.
