BCM’s ANC youth wing at odds with task team
CONFUSION reigns again in the Eastern Cape ANCYL after some Buffalo City young lions convened a regional conference which the provincial leadership structure has washed its hands of.
The youth wing’s EC task team (PTT) says it was a bogus conference as it did not give the go-ahead.
According to PTT coordinator Ntombikayise Mnyengeza, only the Joe Gqabi ANCYL region has so far convened a successful conference, while the other seven still have process issues to deal with.
The “newly elected” ANCYL regional executive committee (REC) of Dr WB Rubusana (formerly Buffalo City) has called a press conference for today.
In a statement sent out by purported deputy regional chairman Maliviwe Bata, his newly elected leadership structure plans to brief the media about:
● Outcomes of the regional elective congress (elected members, resolutions, and credentials);
● The provincial elective of the ANCYL and;
● Their programme of action in organising a progressive youth alliance summit.
Mnyengeza said any ANCYL region, bar the Joe Gqabi region, that claimed to have a properly elected structure was daydreaming as only she, as PTT leader, could give the green light and deploy observers.
“Only Joe Gqabi has successfully convened their regional conference so far because they had long received congress their preliminary audit report and subsequently the final one, so they were up to scratch with all processes and they duly elected their new leadership on Friday,” said Mnyengeza.
“The Nelson Mandela Metro region was also supposed to convene, but when leadership from the province got there, they realised that the region did not observe the five-day cooling-off period, so the conference was called off.
Turning to Buffalo City, she said: “We are still waiting for the preliminary audit report, so there cannot be a conference before due processes are followed.”
Mnyengeza said all regions were getting ready to convene their various regional conferences, but the PTT would not allow any bypassing of due process in the name of rushing for the much awaited provincial conference.
The league in the province has not had a formal structure since the disbandment of the provincial executive committee in 2016. —
