'Fire' ready to fire

- Dispatch Racing Editor

FIRE In The Belly is set to record his fifth career victory when he contests the main event at the Fairview Polytrack tomorrow.

Race 6 is the Tellytrack. com MR 94 Handicap over

1900m and trainer Alan Greeff has a strong claim with the four-year-old son of Tiger Dance.

A line can be drawn through Fire In The Belly’s last race when he finished 7.60 lengths behind Breakfast Club.

He is a much better horse than that result indicates – as his penultimate race clearly showed when he won convincingly by 3.75 lengths with regular pilot Greg Cheyne up. Charles Ndlovu was in the saddle in his last race.

He can be regarded as a Pick 6 banker.

However, it will not be a walk in the park for the Greeff charge, even though only eight runners will fight it out for the winning cheque of R58 750. Road To Indy, Inviting Lily and Chit Chat will all have their supporters.

Road To Indy, from the Tara Laing yard, had a good last run when finishing fourth, only 1.45 lengths behind

Stormy Eclipse over 1600m. He is a five-time winner and might give Fire In The Belly a good run for his money.

Inviting Lily, a seventime winner, can never be ignored and is also better than his last run, in which he tired late.

Then there is Chit Chat, who is fresh from a victory in her last start.

She is the only filly in the race, but needs respect. On her day she is a tough customer.

The nine-race meeting starts at 12:15 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate for twoyear-old fillies over 1 200m.

Seattle Mermaid looks ready to come out of the maidens with Cheyne up for the Greeff stable.
