Gompo LFA are preparing well
THE Gompo Local Football Association has already begun preparing for their much anticipated June 16 tournament after they recently secured a R40 000 sponsorship from Botani Construction.
The two-day tournament set to host the 19 teams affiliated to the LFA will be launched on May 26 and Gompo LFA vice-chairman who’s also in charge of competitions, Nzimeni Fanta, said the preps of the tournament were in full swing.
Fanta said besides championing football development in the region, they wanted to commemorated the pupils that were killed by the Apartheid police in 1976 in Soweto.
On Thursday the executive of the Gompo LFA met with the affiliated clubs at the Gompo Welfare office to outline what was expected from them.
“We are commencing with our preps for this important tournament, because we don’t want any mistakes.
“We want them to see we are serious about what we want to achieve,” said Fanta.
He said they aimed to produce top class soccer players and administrators who would contribute to the sport nationally.
“We have a ladies league that we are focusing on as well as male junior U13 and U15 teams. We also have one team playing in the ABC Motsepe in Future Tigers.
“Plus we have four SAB League teams in Mighty Taliban, Beacon Bay Celtics, Birmingham City and City Lads.”
Fanta said their four SAB league teams would be grouped together with Tigers.
“The eleven ladies teams will be in the same group and then both nine respective junior teams will also go up against each other.
“SAFA Buffalo City is putting development forward so we also have to follow that route as well.
“And we want to change the fact that ladies in soccer have not not taken off and we’ll make sure that they receive good prizes like their male counterparts.’’
