The Beat goes on

BEATABOUTTHEBUSH is the horse to beat in a field of just seven runners in the main race at Fairview tomorrow.

The Alan Greeff-trained filly has found her best form again and has experience on the Polytrack surface she races on here. In fact, all the conditions suit her nicely in Race 5, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1 600m for fillies and mares with a stake of R99 000.

A seven-time winner from 16 starts, Beataboutthebush will have Greg Cheyne in the saddle.

She won her last two starts, last time defeating the reopposing Smokey Affair, and owners Mr and Mrs AC Greeff and Messrs CG and LF Scribante have their hopes pinned on the hat-trick.

Most punters will banker Beataboutthebush in all exotic bets, but they should be aware of the old saying that the smaller the field the bigger the upset.

If Beataboutthebush does not produce on the day, Peach Delight and Smokey Affair are poised to take advantage.

Peach Delight, who will have Lyle Hewitson in the irons for the Yvette Bremner yard, is a seven-time winner from 33 starts and has been in good form. She came close in all four of her most recent starts, of which three were on the Poly.

Smokey Affair comes off two good seconds – 1,75 lengths and one length behind Minds Eye and Beataboutthebush respectively.

She ran on nicely when chasing Beataboutthebush with Louis Mxothwa up and she could conceivably reverse the result this time with Mathew Thackeray in the saddle.

Red Granite, Tiffendell and Valediction are all capable on their day of upsetting the applecart.

The eight-card race gets under way at 12:40 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate for two-year-olds over 1 000m.
