Boys take to pitch with keen passion

-

AMALINDA was filled with excitement, enthusiasm and pride when Crewe Primary School gave 285 eager football-loving boys the platform to show their passion, skill and love for the game in their seventh Annual Grade 1 Vissy Chetty Soccer Festival on Saturday morning.

The splendid weather also gave the “Chetty Babes”, as they were dubbed, the perfect backdrop to enjoy their soccer-filled morning, which started with Chetty setting the games up and running.

The players all come from various backgrounds and schools making for a fantastic occasion.

All the boys played three simultaneous matches, each match lasting 15 minutes, but witnessing their enthusiasm for the game, it is evident that those 15 minutes provided a lifetime of memories.

All the boys were awarded with a Certificate for Participation and given a voucher from McDonalds Amalinda for their effort and attendance, but there were also the Player of the Festival that were chosen by their respective coaches for outstanding display of sportsmanship.

They were: Ovayo Mbiyo, Miyelani Kilani, Juan Pierre Neetling, Sergio Meyers, Okuhle Fani, Oyisa Mabenga (Crewe Primary), Qamani Mabengu (Southernwood Primary), Neo Ambraal (Cranberry Primary), Lingomso Ndima, Sean Nako, Siphumle Kashe;

Liam Galligher (Parkside Primary), Garren Meintjies (Aspiranza Primary), Breyton Richards (Pefferville Primary) and Fletcher Goodwin (Selborne Primary).

They all received a Special Player of the Festival certificate and a McDonads Amalinda meal voucher.

The boys were also treated to a delicious chocolate-coated doughnut from King Pie, Powerade from McDonalds Amalinda and Cool drinks from Twizza.

AV’s Catering made sure the parents were able to get their favourite coffee, while the Fourie family offered Slush Puppies for those that braved the extreme cold.

The event could not have been so successful without the assistance of all the coaches and staff from the various schools, as well as the Crewe staff and prefects who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

A special appearance on the day by Lasse Voges, a UEFA B licensed soccer coach, who came all the way from Germany.

It was a great honour to have the coach from Europe grace day and showing such a keen interest in the future stars of the sport.

Voges is offering specialised football coaching to the local youth players and their respective coaches will be sharing their knowledge with the youngsters and also the seniors as well during their stay in the country until October this year. —
