Battle for struggling Aloes

- By SINO MAJANGAZA

WEAK defence and poor player positioning were some of the shortcomings that led to the demise of the Eastern Cape team, the Eastern Cape Aloes at the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League.

Although the team improved on its games over the weekend, they still have not won a single game although they have registered a draw thus far.

The E C Aloes played their sixth game at the Rembrandt Hall at the University of Pretoria campus yesterday. The team lost 50-40 to Limpopo Baobabs yesterday.

On Saturday they played to a 38-all draw against the Mpumalanga Sunbirds. .

The player of the match was goal defence Lentsa Motau.

The team started yesterday’s game against the Limpopo Baobabs well, with goal shooter and goal attack converting most of the balls into goals.

At the end of the first quarter, the score difference was just one, with the Boababs leading 12-11.

However, by the end of the second quarter, the score was 27-19, with the Aloes behind by eight goals.

Coach of the team, Desree Neville, then made some changes at the third, taking wing defence Nobubele Phuza to goal defence, and she brought back goal shooter Bianca Blom.

The team plays champions Jaguars, of Gauteng, on Saturday. On Sunday they will lock horns with the Diamonds of the Northern Cape.
