Time to go Carlita’s way

- Dispatch Racing Editor

THE new darling of Port Elizabeth racing, Carlita, is set to continue her rise to fame in the Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes over 1 400m at Fairview tomorrow.

The Alan Greeff-trained daughter of Oratorio is a three-time winner from four starts and has already accumulated R214 375 in stakes. Her last two wins over, 1 000m and 1 200m, were so convincing that the longer distance should not be a problem.

Carlita defeated Vertical in her penultimate run by 2,75 lengths and followed it up with two length victory over Madame Speaker. Madame Speaker is back for the challenge, but with 60kg on the back she carries 2,5kg more than last time. However, she is not a filly that can be underestimated.

With two wins and two seconds from five starts she must be respected as she runs well for Teaque Gould.

March Music’s only run was promising when she ran on late over 1 000m to finish 0,50 lengths behind Gimme Crystals with Lyle Hewitson up. If the Yvette Bremner-trained filly can repeat that run she could be a serious contender.

Plenty of talent will go down to the starting stalls, but it will come as a big surprise if Carlita does not come out tops. She has been priced up at 6-10 and it will need a big effort to keep her out of the winner’s enclosure.

Carlita seems to be the best bet on the card and is therefore the obvious banker in all exotics.

Aldo Domeyer rides Carlita for the third time in a row and will jump from gate No 4.

In the Jackpot March Music could be added as a possible upset.

The second and third legs of the Pick 6 are full of potholes and punters are advised to go as wide as possible.

The nine-race cards gets under way at 1200 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1 200m where Kissmebackfoot should get punters off to a winning start.
