Flexing their muscles for charity

BODYBUILDING enthusiasts in King William’s Town are in for a good time as the first ever House of Legends Bodybuilding competition will be keeping them entertained this afternoon at Dale College.

Event organiser, Landile “Milo” Makubalo, who co-owns the supplement company SH Nutrition that’s hosting the competition, said they had respected names in the bodybuilding industry gracing the event.

“The popular IFBB bodybuilder Earl ‘The Beast’ Abrahams will be our guest poser.

“We are not aligned to any federation, as there’s currently a lot of infighting in that space.

“So we welcome anyone who wants to compete to join us and not worry about affiliating, and we are expected between 50 and 100 athletes,” said Makubalo.

“We run a sports nutrition, sports management and events company in the province, but we are operating nationwide. We are looking to grow the sport in the province.”

He said as this was their inaugural competition they want to make a lasting impression.

“This will be our first bodybuilding show and we have partnered with USN and the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.

“The overall winner takes home R10 000 in the men’s side, and the overall prize in all the different divisions will be R2 000.”

Makubalo said they had a charity beneficiary for the event – St Thomas School for the Deaf.

“We got them sport equipment like balls, bats and they will be involved in the event as well. The kids will do a small exercise routine before the proceedings.

“We decided to do this because they never got taken out of their environment and get exposed to such an event. And then we will hand over the equipment to them.

“And we are expecting to draw quite a number of athletes from all over the country and we have awesome prizes for all the athletes, including cash prizes,” said Makubalo.

He said in an effort to grow the sport, they will not be charging entry for teens.

“The show is private and not affiliated to a federation, and every participant will go home with something – we’ve made sure of that, so we won’t do ‘the handshake and get off stage’ thing’.”

Doors will open at 3.:30pm and the event will start at 4pm.

Tickets will be available at the door for R150. The entry fee is R200 for participants.
