THE cream of Buffalo City’s soccer talent will compete in this year’s instalment of the Mayor’s Cup at BCM Stadium in East London this coming weekend following the tough trials that were held in Mdantsane on Saturday.

The Inter-LFA tournament which started last week finished at NU2’s Orlando Stadium and only the best soccer players made the cut in the four squads that will be playing in the Mayor’s Cup on June 16.

Safa-BCM scout Olwethu Ndiki said they picked the crème de la crème from the local football associations affiliated to Safa-BCM and they had a tough time doing so.

“One of the things that I think is important, is that from the four squads we have selected, we have three U19 teams, and we also made a best U17 team to continue with this tournament.

“So that we know that next year we still have players that will be playing here,” said Ndiki.

Safa-BCM secretary Mnyamezeli Bomeni also shared the same views Ndiki had about their squads and said participating in the Steve Vukile Tshwete Games would be much easier for the metro.

“Between Victoria Mxenge LFA and Mdalfa, it was fireworks, and I would take those two teams and go field them in the Mayor’s Cup, but our scouts had to select from them.”

Bomeni said sport fans should come to BCM Stadium on Saturday to witness the talent the metro has in six sporting codes on show which includes goalball, boxing and table tennis.

“I challenge Chippa United to come and see what we have on offer,” said Bomeni.
