Social vibe to add that extra hype
THE Buffalo City Municipality Volleyball Association will host its annual tournament during the Mayor’s Cup at the Gompo Community Hall and Parkside Community Hall on Saturday.
The association’s chairperson, Belekazi Mnqwazi, said since it was youth month they were going to be hosting 20 volleyball teams in their tournament that would run concurrently with the Mayor’s Cup.
BCM will be commemorating youth month by hosting the annual BCMM Mayoral Cup finals for U19s at Buffalo City Stadium. The various sporting codes include soccer, table tennis, rugby, boxing, volleyball and goal ball.
“We have the teams that we invited and also the U19 teams that will be playing the Mayor’s Cup with our tournament.
“Our tournament is a social tournament. We will have teams from outside the Eastern Cape but incorporated it to the Mayor’s Cup.
“So we’ll be using both venues on Saturday, and then on Sunday the finals will be played at the Gompo Hall.”
The WSU player and BCM Volleyball club confirmed they would have 10 male teams and 10 female teams vying for the top spot at the tournament.
“We have Helping Hand from Mthatha, we have teams from the Gauteng as well as the other parts in the province. We have teams from Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal. We also have MBSA-Buffalo City, VW-Uitenage, University of Fort Hare, and PE College will also be present.
“And the Warriors from Willlowvale has confirmed they will be coming, and locally we also have BCC College, and the Falcons, which has players from Buffalo City Metro to OR Tambo District Municipality.”
Mnqwazi said the teams have confirmed their attendance.
He said, “the people that will come and support these will also be watching the Mayor’s Cup U19 teams playing for the top position”.
