Chintsa’s African Angels school receives R10 000
AFRICAN Angels Independent School in Chintsa East, near East London, has received a R10 000 donation to help towards the upliftment of its facilities.
Founded in 2012, African Angels is a non-profit organisation that provides primary school education to disadvantaged children.
African Angels founder Louise Billet said the quality of education between the rich and the poor was one of the reasons she opened the organisation.
“By Grade 3, children in the poorest 60% of schools are already three years worth of learning behind their wealthier peers, and by Grade 9 it escalates to five years,” said Billet.
The school currently has over 130 pupils, mostly orphans, who are enrolled from Grades R to 7.
The donation by life insurance company MiWayLife is part of the company’s #MiFuture campaign which saw three schools in South Africa receive donations for their facilities – the other two being Teen ’n Child Developer in Khayelitsha and Ukwhezi Lower Primary School in Mpumalanga.
MiWayLife CEO Craig Baker said the work done by African Angels is parallel to the values of the insurance company.
“The vision of African Angels is for every child to reach their full potential, and grow into fine South African citizens, and this fits into our values as a life insurance company to help invest in the future our country by providing support for early childhood development,” said Baker
