Kudos to police officials

-

PEOPLE have a right to protest. However, protesters should not impede on the movement and the rights of law-abiding citizens.

And when people are involved in protests, the law should not be broken.

Recently, there has been a spate of fires being set off deliberately at intersections and thoroughfares.

Traffic gets blocked, resulting in productive citizens being unable to get to work, pupils unable to get to school, students unable to get to college and university, patients unable to get to clinics and hospitals and essential deliveries disrupted.

I often wonder what the police’s modus operandi is in such cases.

After all is said and done, they are lawenforcers.

It is not my intention to lambaste the police but they were often seen maintaining a safe distance from these points of conflict.

That was until today, Monday. I want to commend the police officers driving a vehicle with the registration plate BTV 859 B.

They were right on the spot of the conflict, in the midst of smouldering fires, on the corner of Mdantsane Access and Alphen Roads.

They were there from early in the morning, so that traffic could flow easier.

I salute those police officers. My faith in the police has been restored. — Weza, via e-mail
