Executive boss takes swipe at his club’s mentor

- By MFUNDO PILISO

EXECUTIVE Ladies chairman Mawethu Nama has put the blame on their coach after losing 5-1 to City Lads during their muchanticipated Sasol League encounter at Mount Ayliff Stadium over the weekend.

Nama said their coach, Olwethu Kekela made mistakes that cost them dearly and they could have kept their third position spot on the log-standings with 21 points if Kekela had done things differently.

Executive have now been replaced by Red Roses, who have the same number of points with a better goal difference.

“That game was tough but not too challenging for us, it’s just City Lads utilised their chances, and we on the other hand failed to exploit our chances.

“Everyone played a good game and there were no incidents, we just lost fair and square.

“But the coach [Kekela] . . . admitted himself he cost us the game,” said Nama.

Nama said Kekela’s mistakes led to three goals being scored by the Lads.

“The coach admitted to have been in the wrong, and he apologised to the players for costing us the match.

“He failed to make substitutions although we had strong players on the bench and he said he would just give other players who’ve not been playing game time.

“And I decided not to intervene as chairman because I would make him feel uncomfortable in his job.

“And another thing he did wrong was to call the defenders to give them instructions while the game was playing.

“We were being attacked but he still called players, leaving our back defenceless and we conceded two goals from that.”

Nama said after the game, he had a productive discussion with their mentor and forged a way forward as they still face log leaders Thunderbirds.

“City Lads played a good game and now we’ll see what happens in Dutywa when we take on Mbashe Eagles.

“We have to show that we’ve learnt from the mistakes we committed this past weekend and I’ve told the coach not to change his winning team without a reason.

“Because we all know that being in the top three is tough work, so we need to use these players we are winning with.”

Nama said he gave their coach a mandate to take the team to the summit of the log-standings when the season ends.
