Fan-tastic festival of play back at Sisa

- By ROSS ROCHE

SUPERSPORT Rugby Challenge action returns to Mdantsane this weekend as the quarterfinals of the competition will be battled out as part of another festival at the popular stadium on Sunday.

Three cracking games of rugby will be on show and fans are expected to turn out in their numbers once again as they did just over a week ago when the last festival was held at the ground.

The Border Bulldogs will however not be in action, having been knocked out of the competition in the pool stages, but there will still be plenty for fans to enjoy.

A massive club encounter between Swallows and the Walter Sisulu University All Blacks will start off the days action as they battle it out for silverware in the final of the Nashua Knockout competition.

Two massive Provincial clashes will then take centre-stage as the Lions will take on the Sharks and the defending champion Western Province team will be up against Free State.

The Lions, who finished second on the north section table and the Sharks, who finished second on the central section table, will be an intriguing clash.

Both teams won five and lost three of the pool stage matches, proving that they have their weaknesses but manage to get the win more often than not.

The second match should be straight forward, with south section table-toppers Western Province once again unbeaten going into the playoffs.

They have not lost a match in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge since its inception last year and will be favourites but they have shown that they can be beaten, with a few tight results and a draw against the Boland Kavaliers this season.

Free State won six and lost two of their games in the central pool, but finished behind the Sharks after they were unable to pick up enough bonus points to stay ahead.

In all a fantastic day is on the cards and rugby fans in the region are in for a treat again with entry to the ground free.
