High praise all round
THE Carlos Soccer Youth Development Academy (CYSDA) teams turned heads on their tour to Bidvest Wits and SuperSport this past weekend.
CYSDA jetted off to Johannesburg on Friday morning with three teams that played two games each, against United and Wits.
In the first game the West Bank Prisonbased outfit U13s lost 5-0 to United’s U13 squad that had just returned from Germany.
Then the academy’s U15 side lost 3-0 to United’s U15 side.
The academy U19 team also lost 4-2 to United’s U19 team.
At Braamfontein CYSDA U13 lost 1-0 to Wits U13, while the U15 division academy side drew 2-2 against hosts Wits U15.
The local lads closed their tour on a high, with the U19 side winning 2-1 against Wits.
SuperSport United Development’s Thabo September said the East Londonbased academy was producing future PSL stars.
“They were very impressive and they did well in all their game they played.
“We were surprised because they could match up with our boys that have more facilities than them, and that’s a good thing because it shows how talented these guys are.
“And we’ll be keeping tabs on them because there’s a few players we are interested in, so we will be coming down to East London to monitor them.”
CYSDA managing director, Eric Carlos Mtshamba, said: “They did well from the results we got last year. They showed a huge improvement and they left a mark on both teams.
“The technical director at SuperSport, Kwanele Kopo was also impressed by the boys on and off the field of play.
“Not only because our boys could matchup with their boys, but their professionalism as well.
“He had good things to say about the teams because they have some things that we don’t have, like fitness trainers and so on.”
Mtshamba said SuperSport and Bidvest showed an interest in some of his players, and they would be coming to East London next week to have a closer look at the players they want to sign to their academies.
