Deployed comrades the reason pot is empty

-

THE article “Money pot almost empty” refers. A mistake is being made by the municipalities not to employ properly qualified and experienced people for positions such as finance and administration.

Instead they have employed comrades. Having the proper education must go another long route while the comrades who are employed make side profits.

If the municipalities cannot account for funds used, which I doubt, why has government not listened to our cry that there is money laundering going on at municipalities.

It’s only now that we are facing elections that they are starting to panic because the pot is empty. But they did not bother to set resources aside in preparation for filling what is rightfully the people’s pot.

The tenders that are given to people by municipalities are outrageous. Also these tenders are not evaluated to see if the work was effective or non-effective.

When it comes to paraffin, people even get hold of names and surnames and submit them for payment to the municipality and the officials pay, but do not bother to check if the right people really got the paraffin.

There are a lot of kickbacks where a tender is granted and the prices are manipulated so that there is a payback.

People nowadays act without ethics or considering the effect of their actions on others. That is why the pot is empty. — Lungiswa Mjiwu, Mthatha
