A love for comedy and artist development in the province has seen a local comedian, Shuz Sigobelwana, partner with Bay TV to host a show every Wednesday on the station.

Sigobelwana launched his partnership officially with Bay TV last month at The Square Africa Boxing Lounge in the East London CBD.

Speaking with the Dispatch yesterday, Sigobelwana said the show aimed to create a platform for local comedians to share their work with a bigger audience.

“This is a bigger and better platform for Eastern Cape comedians to hone their skills.

“I have made a call to comedians around the province to come through and have a share on stage,” he said.

They record their shows at The Square Africa every second Wednesday, or it depends on the availability of comedians.

The shows are aired on Bay TV every Wednesday.

In 2014, Sigobelwana launched the Amazing Laughs

Comedy show, which featured a number of comedians, including TD Jokes, Siyabulela “Mbathane” Makwetu, Musa, Mroja Mholo, Ikona and Madoda Mhlekwa.

Since he first started the show, Sigobelwana said, it has been his dream to have a slot on a TV channel.

For as long as Sigobelwana can remember he has always cracked a joke or two.

Despite being a shy child, he was born with a funny bone.

The ordained pastor says his inspiration comes from his family and the Bible which, he insists, has a lot of humour.

“I am an ordained pastor but my comedy keeps me busy.

“I can’t fully become a pastor, I run away from that part,” he chuckled.

He keeps his comedy clean and entertaining.

“I call my comedy familyfriendly because it’s the type of show you can bring your kids and parents to without having to worry about the content,” he said.

With Bay TV on board, Sigobelwana is now working on expanding his brand to cater for non-Xhosa speaking people as well.

“I’ve hosted a number of events, such as the Border Cricket Awards, and I realised then that I needed to work on material that caters for a wider audience, not just Xhosa-speaking people.

“I’m now creating material that doesn’t limit me to one crowd,” he said.

The Eastern Cape Stars Award-winning comedian said many people have asked him to host shows in their cities.

“Cape Town people have been asking for the Amazing

Laughs show.

“I think now the next step is to take the comedy to them and other cities,” he said.

Sigobelwana said people wanting to attend the comedy shows coudl follow him on his Facebook page, Shuz Sigobelwana.

People can watch the comedy night show every Wednesday at 10.30pm on Bay TV.
