New Kids 047 launch debut album to sold-out theatre
Hundreds of music lovers packed the Guild Theatre on Friday night for 047’s album launch.
The show also featured Vusi Nova, Bekezela, Bongani Radebe and Ntando.
Organiser Luzuko Khohli said they were grateful for the support Buffalo City music lovers had shown them with the show sold out the day before.
“We have never achieved that. It’s a great feeling,” Khohli said.
The group was formed in Mthatha five years ago and their debut 12-track album, titled Wen’ungowam, was released a few months ago.
The title song Wen’ungowam is already receiving airplay on national radio stations Umhlobo Wenene, Metro FM and Ukhozi FM.
The three-member group consists of university students Ngcali Nundu, Lihle Baleni and Sihle Mdaka.
Speaking to the Dispatch after their performance, Baleni said when they started, they never imagined they would be where they are today.
“We were just doing music for the love of it, but we have been shown that with determination and hard work, one can achieve a lot,” he said.
“The response has always been amazing since we started. People of Mthatha showed us how much they love and appreciate us, but now the support is on a bigger scale and we are really humbled by that,” said Nundu, adding they were still going to launch the album in Mthatha.
“Our fans were angry that we did not launch the album there first, but we can assure them that before the end of the year, we will have a launch there.”
Nundu said the three of them had met at a music competition in Mthatha.
Stranded without transport at the music hall where the competition was held, they started singing together.
“We realised we connected in a heavenly way. That was the birth of the group,” Nundu explained.
Nundu added they were excited with the support they had received on Friday night.
“We know that people love our music, but were not aware it was at this level. From the bottom of our hearts we say thank you,” he said.
