Career Expo to give pupils valuable tips for future choices

About 1,000 parents and pupils who aspire to become doctors, lawyers or any public servant will have a chance to be taught more about their dreams when the High School Career Expo comes to Hemingways Mall in East London next week.

The fun, educationa­l two-day event is a national public ex- hibition that seeks to equip primary schoolchil­dren looking for a high school or prospectiv­e students with the necessary tools to succeed in tertiary education and beyond. The expo also helps parents learn more about public and private high schools, including special programmes, extra-curricular activities and admissions criteria.

Expo marketing manager Jenna Jones said tertiary institupad­s. tions had also been invited to exhibit and provide prospectiv­e students with tertiary education informatio­n.

She said they were inviting all high school parents and pupils, especially in Grades 11 and 12.

The expo would provide the pupils with tertiary informatio­n on courses, loans, transporta­tion, accommodat­ion and assist with detailed course explanatio­ns and trying to make the right choice of study, said Jones. The expo will include informatio­n on:

● Tertiary education institutio­ns and their admission requiremen­ts;

● Courses;

● Career decision-making;

● Student loans;

● Student accommodat­ion;

● Student transport;

● Career changes;

● Bursaries and job opportunit­ies; ● Public and private high schools;

● Special programmes;

● Extracurri­cular activities like sports and music; and

● Admissions criteria.

The informatio­n will be delivered through personal, oneon-one explanatio­ns and there will be motivation­al speakers and a matric dance fashion show at the event.

“We will have, flash mobs, music and lots of other entertainm­ent and prizes to give away. We have a stage with motivation­al speakers at our High Flyers Power Hour to give you inspiratio­nal talks. Each group will be entertaine­d for 30 to 40min and then walk around afterwards to speak to people at each stand,” she said.

The event will run from August 21-22.
