Sinyabi can’t wait to take up new ring role
Dumezweni-Tshemese rematch will light up Indoor Centre – Macbute
Former boxer Macbute Sinyabi is confident that next weekend he will be baptised as a fully fledged promoter come what may.
Sinyabi has been trying to transition into boxing promotion after a successful career as a boxer when he defended his SA junior-featherweight title nine times before moving up to win the featherweight crown.
But his boxing career was abruptly ended by Duncan Village star Azinga Fuzile who dethroned him of his featherweight title.
Now he has been trying to organise his first tournament as a promoter only to encounter stumbling blocks on more than three occasions. This when a variety of reasons forced him to consistently shelve his promotional debut.
The last time was when his initial bout between Mthathaborn Athi Dumezweni and Thulani Gumede for the vacant SA junior-bantamweight crown was challenged by second-rated Lindile Tshemese.
Tshemese, a former holder of the title before he was dethroned by Yanga Sigqibo who has since relinquished it, wrote to Boxing SA challenging the decision to overlook him despite his lofty rating in favour of Gumede who is rated eighth.
Now Sinyabi says the issue has been sorted out and Tshemese will instead face Dumezweni in a highly anticipated rematch at Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre next Sunday.
“It is all systems go now as Tshemese will face Dumezweni in a grudge match,” he said.
“I will finally be baptised as a promoter.”
Indeed the fight is more appealing and marketable than the original Gumede clash.
Not only will it give Dumezweni an opportunity to exact revenge when he was knocked out by Tshemese in the 12th and last round of a fight he was far ahead on points, but it will justify his decision to dump his uncle and join Damean Durandt in Johannesburg.
The loss to Tshemese nearly sparked a family feud between Dumezweni and his uncle Mthetho Dumezweni when the boxer sneaked out to join Nick Durandt’s son without even informing him.
Dumezweni has since fought once knocking out unheralded Siphosethu Zingela while Tshemese rebounded to a gutsy win over homeboy Luzuko Siyo after surrendering the crown to Sigqibo.
“As everybody knows when I do things I do them big, so this fight is perfect to launch the MMT because it is going to produce fireworks,” said Sinyabi.
