Stirling High School will be hosting its 10th annual vocal celebration on Saturday with successful past pupils, musical theatre guru Kay Mosiane, opera vocalist Litho Nquai and UCT jazz vocalist Robin Castle entertaining audiences.

Started by Stirling High School choir teacher Leoni Johl 10 years ago, Stirling’s vocal celebration has grown to become a popular and exciting event on the school calendar.

“I always told my students that the 10th show would be a reunion but due to various factors we could not make it a reunion. Thus I opted to invite past vocal students who are either busy studying or already professional musicians and making a name for themselves in the industry,” Johl said.

“It is wonderful to see how well my vocalists have done over the years and I follow their successes and careers and feel it a privilege to be able to invite them back to come and perform. It will also be amazing for my current students to perform with professionals.”

Guest artist Kay Mosiane, who was taught by Johl during her time at Stirling, said she was honoured and excited to be invited to perform.

“Stirling is one of the best schools in the country.

“It feels so good to come back to a familiar space and work with teachers who have become great friends,” she said.

“I didn’t finish my high school career at Stirling but I feel so privileged to have been taught by Leoni. She is incredibly talented and skilled in the field.

“It means the world to be back at Stirling and performing with the current students and I hope I can inspire them.”

Fellow guest artist and past pupil Robin Castle said: “To be called out of Cape Town and being back at Stirling High School this weekend is an absolute honour for me.

“I’ve dreamt of this moment since my first vocal celebration when I was a pupil.”

Also performing will be talented Stirling vocalists Daniel Anderson, Sonqoba Njengala and Hannah Moerdyk, as well as the Stirling High School Chamber Choir, which recently received gold and fifth place at the World Choir Games.

The vocal celebration takes place at the school auditorium at 6.30pm. Tickets are R30 per person. For more info, contact the school on 043-735-1444.
