Indie folk artist bringing his nation-wide tour ‘Home is Gold’ to East London this weekend

Alternative indie folk artist Jeremy Loops is bringing his countrywide tour, Home is Gold, to the Eastern Cape this weekend.

The South African tour will kick off in Knysna on Friday and moves to the province on Saturday with a performance in Port Elizabeth and finally at the C-Club in Chintsa just outside East London on Sunday.

Loops, who made his performance debut at the C-Club in February, said he was looking forward to returning to the city.

“We don’t often do shows that side and it was a nice surprise for us when we were there. There are lots of people who are part of the community that love our music.

“I also loved the lifestyle, the whole experience was great and I am looking to bringing our tour to East London,” he said.

Loops and his band recently returned from their world tour that saw them performing around Europe, United States and New Zealand.

They will be doing their South African tour for the next two months before jetting off on yet another international tour.

“Since the beginning of my career I’ve dedicated time to build a community around the world, not just South Africa. Already we’ve spent a lot of time travelling around the world. It can be exhausting at times but we know why we are doing this,” he said.

Loops said it had always been his dream to build a following far beyond South Africa.

“I get well-known artists here in South Africa asking me how I sell tickets for a show in London and I tell them you can’t go there once, you must keep going back for more shows,” he said.

He added that there were a lot of festivals and venues for artists to perform overseas compared to South Africa.

“In SA we have a handful of festivals and a couple of clubs we can perform in,” he said, adding that the demand for music was more international.

Loops said doing international tours had been good for the longevity of their band.

“If you only perform in SA, it’s easy for the band to lose interest. You perform at the same venues but internationally the audiences never get bored with seeing you.

“You perform in different venues every time,” he said.

Touching on his Home is Gold tour, Loops said people should expect to hear music from his first album and the latest one.

“I will make sure that I play some of the crowd favourites.

“Everyone enjoys it when a band plays their favourite song and what’s nice is that the set will be longer,” he said.

Tickets for Loops’ show on Sunday cost R150 and are available at www.webtickets.co.za.
