Ever ‘Mother of Azania’

-

The PAC notes with sadness the passing of Mama, Gogo, Koko, Veronica Zodwa Sobukwe, the wife of the PAC’s first president Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe – a very humble, resistant and loving woman who we came to know many decades ago. Significantly she has died during Women’s Month Hers is an example women should emulate and embody. She was not a drama queen but a responsible mother who understood her cause until the end.

We have already acknowledged the award or recognition she got from the democratic state but they forgot her for too long, overlooking her colossal contribution to the liberation movement as well as the democratic dispensation.

We believe that from God we come to do specific work in the name of God the merciful and God the compassionate, and when we’ve done what we were sent to do we return to God where we came from.

Let us borrow the words of wisdom of our founding father, Robert Sobukwe, who said in our most difficult times: “We are the tools of history, if we go history will find other tools to continue where we left off.” Mama Sobukwe has done what she come to do, she has re turned to God from where she came. May her journey home be showered with blessings and her soul find peace with God. To the Sobukwe family, we offer heartfelt condolences. When the sun rises we shall remember the Mother of Azania and her husband. And when the sun sets we shall remember them! – Kenneth Mokgatlhe, PAC spokesman
