Women share successes to inspire

- MBALI TANANA

The first women’s Round Table Business High Tea at The Mustard in Vincent was an intimate event that saw women in finance, beauty and medicine share their inspirational journeys as businesswomen.

The event “Get out of your way to win” was hosted by Sixolisiwe Ndawo of S/S Collaboration, in partnership with investment guru Thandi Mbete.

It was aimed at creating a platform for women to network and draw inspiration from the stories of women who have persevered to succeed.

Dr Gcobisa Mtyobile, a general practitioner in North End, shared how she was finally living her dream and running her own practice, after many years of working for government at various public health facilities.

“I was working in the public sector for 16 years, although I always had ambitions of running my own practice, but I was always just so comfortable in my job, procrastinating my dreams until I really didn’t have a choice,” she said.

“All the time, my mom used to ask, ‘when are you starting your own practice?’ and I would tell her it’s a lengthy process, it’s not that easy – until she decided to start the business for me.”

Mtyobile said her mother and sisters registered her with the Health Professions Council of SA and handled all the admin to get her business started.

“My mother wrote my resignation letter and I had run out of excuses.

“I had to overcome my fears, step out of my comfort zone . . . and follow my dream.

“It was the best decision I have ever made,” she said.

Mother and daughter Lundi and Amandla Ludidi, who are first-time authors and doing a promotional tour, talked about their books.

Lundi is the author of Till Death . . . I Do and, Amandla, of I Learned to Pray.

“Other people’s perceptions of you don’t define you.

“Learn to love yourself and believe in yourself,” was the main message they shared.

Beautician Ntando Nhizar Mvume shared how she saw a gap to use her hobby to boost her income, although she is already employed.
