Steins shoot Cape wine TV series

-

Jack and Charlie Stein – sons of acclaimed British chef Rick Stein – have been filming in Cape Town recently, completing two episodes of a new food series from Oxyg3n Media called Wine, Dine & Stein.

They will return in January to shoot the remaining 11 episodes.

The Stein brothers are fronting the 13x30-minute series which will be shown in SA on an as yet unnamed channel, in the first half of 2019.

The series will be distributed internationally by UK company DCD.

Set in and around the Durbanville Wine Valley, sees the siblings visiting 12 of the estates in the area – Altydgedacht, Canto, D’Aria, De Grendel, Diemersdal, Durbanville Hills, Hillcrest, Klein Roosboom, Meerendal, Nitida, Groot Phesantekraal and Signal Gun – speaking to the winemakers, cooking with the chefs and finding out about the rich and diverse history of Cape Town’s premier wine route.

“Wine, Dine & Stein is a fun travelogue and lifestyle series for all those who love travel, food and wine,” the series’ producer Rebecca Fuller Campbell says.

"It will follow the Stein brothers as they sip on world class wines, tuck into incredible local cuisine and embrace the history that surrounds the region,” Campbell said

“Audiences will feel they have been on a real adventure with Jack and Charlie, both of whom are passionate about food and wine and love a bit of banter,” she added.

While Jack, 36, has appeared in a number of his father's series, it was only earlier this year that he filmed his first solo TV show Jack Stein: Born to Cook which was filmed in Western

Australia. His debut cookbook, World

on a Plate, was published in July this year. Jack is currently chef director of his father's burgeoning restaurant empire – 14 in the UK and two in Australia at last count!

Younger brother Charlie, 33, works for The Vintner, wine merchants in London, and helps taste and select all the wine for his parents' restaurants.

Charlie made his debut appearance as the drinks expert on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen most recently. Wine, Dine & Stein will be his first television series.
