Although she is not as fit as she was 23 years ago when she started her journey as a gospel singer, multi award-winning Lusanda Mcinga gave hundreds of her fans a sterling performance when she launched a new album on Saturday.

The 54-year-old launched her long-awaited album Mabaphil’

abantu at Mthatha’s O R Tambo Hall.

She was alongside her equally talented gospel sensation son Betusile Mcinga who launched his live DVD that was recorded last year, at the same event.

The veteran singer, who suffered a health scare in August, sang four songs at a time and took short breaks to recoup before proceeding with her performance.

She said she was happy to sing for her fans who came as far as Matatiele, Durban and East London. She thanked them for their support throughout her journey of more than two decades in the cut-throat music industry.

“On August 5 2017, my son launched his album at this very same hall and I did not perform on that day as I was sickly,” Mcinga said.

“I could hardly stand for more than two minutes.

“Today with God’s grace I am here to perform once again.”

The Mpuma Koloni Music Awards also gave the Ingaba

inye lentsikelelo hitmaker an honorary award for her contribution to the industry and for flying the Eastern Cape flag high across the country and abroad.

Mcinga also performed alongside her friend and singer Winnie Mashaba who was in Mthatha for the first time.

Betusile said he would also launch his DVD to other provinces with the Western Cape and KwaZulu- Natal in mind.

“This is all God’s work. We saw people repenting and we thank God for such a successful event.

“Souls were saved and that was the essence of the launch which is to help people through praise and worship in their different needs,” he added.

The 33-year old’s launch went on until 6am on Sunday, with the award-winning muso closing it with a sterling performance of his best songs, including Zundithwale.
