Gloves are off for Alvarez

-

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has turned down a request by Mexican star Saul Canelo Alvarez to use special gloves for his eagerly anticipated clash against Gennady Golovkin next weekend.

The pair mix it in Las Vegas, US next weekend in a rematch of their first fight that was scored a draw.

The commission first approved for Canelo to use his gloves, but after Golovkin trainer Abel Sanchez complained that it was too risky to use a pair of gloves that were never tested in a world championship fight, Canelo won’t be using his preferred gloves for his tie-breaker fight with GGG.

The Gloves “No Boxing, No Life” is a new brand of boxing equipment made by Eddy Reynoso, trainer of Canelo. These are the gloves Canelo Alvarez was going to use for September 15.

According to Team Canelo, the “No Boxing No Life” gloves have passed all the technology tests, all the norms and regulations, and are ranked up there with the best, traditional top quality brands in boxing, their quality is 100% and they are highly recommended. The gloves issue has worsened the already frosty relations between the two camps.

Since their last fight, the camps animosity has skyrocketed with failed dope tests by Alvarez making it even worse.

Golovkin and the majority of fans believe he was robbed in the first fight but when the rematch failed to materialise this past May due to failed dope tests by the Mexican, the camps have assumed belligerent roles.

“No Boxing No Life” boxing gloves will be used Thursday, September 13, on a card presented by Golden Boy in Las Vegas.
