Spring parade to boost funds for Ncerha creche

- ZISANDA NKONKOBE zisandan@dispatch.co.za

Batons, sports cars, motorbikes and aerobics will all come together on Saturday as non-profit company the Black Pearl Foundation hosts a spring parade in Nahoon – all in the name of charity.

Founder Vuyokazi Nkohla said the parade would raise funds towards building a brick and mortar crèche in Ncerha Village 2, which operates from a dilapidated shack.

The crèche accommodates 20 children between the ages of six months and seven years.

Kicking off from the East London Surf Lifesavers Club, the 5km parade will take walkers up Beach Road, into Drake Road and along Kennington Road before ending at the starting point.

Nkohla said at the end of every kilometre, fitness guru Singwa Silinga of Hercules Bootcamp would give the audience an activity to “keep their blood pumping”.

Leading the parade will be the Lilyfontein Primary drum majorettes, followed by bikers from the Road Eagles Club and a collection of cool cars belonging to the East London GTI/R Club.

Brian Ndevu will be the emcee.

Nkohla said sponsors have donated prizes which will be won via a lucky draw.

Among the prizes is a one night stay at Southern Sun Hemingways Hotel valued at over R2,000, a grocery voucher from Nahoon SuperSpar and a pampering session from the Premier Hotel group.

Entry costs R60 and registration will start at 6.30am on Saturday at the lifesavers’ club. The parade begins at 8am.
