Go for a casual win

- Dispatch Racing Editor

THOUGH up against mostly male opposition, threeyear-old Casual Wear, out of Paul Peter’s stable, looks the one to beat at the Vaal Classic course tomorrow when teamed up with top-flight jockey Muzi Yeni in Race 7, an Assessment Plate over 1 000m.

This daughter of What A Winter has competed in male company once before, on debut when backed and a gallant 0.80-length second out of 13 in a Workriders’ contest over 1 000m at the Vaal. Then teamed up with Yeni, she followed up with another stout effort in a big field, claiming second place over 1 000m at the Classic course.

The filly can be excused for being unplaced next time with Chase Maujean up as she was over-matched in the 1 160m SA Fillies Nursery (Grade 2) at Turffontein. Yeni was recalled for her following run at Turffontein where she finished third over 1 000m.

Piere Strydom had the ride when the filly exited the maiden ranks in fine style – rallying gamely to score by 0.80 lengths over 1 000m at the Vaal.

The stable will be expecting an even better run from the filly this time when equipped with blinkers for the first time. She rates a TAB Pick 6 and Jackpot banker.

The filly’s main threat is Dorrie Sham-trained Topmast (Karl Zechner). This colt was a smart maiden winner four runs back with Zechner aboard over 1 000m at Turffontein.

Others who could be involved in the finish are Hampton Court, Royal Cavalier, Tripod and Deago Deluxe.Another bright prospect worth following is Sean Tarry-trained Perfect Pursuit (S’manga Khumalo) who lines up in Race 3 and Leg 1 of the Pick 6, a Maiden Plate over 1 200m.
