Newly-elected ANC Dr WB Rubusana regional chair Pumlani Mkolo wants Buffalo City Metro region to lead the charge in expropriating land and returning it to its “rightful owners”.

He said this while addressing an ANC cadres’ forum at the East London City Hall on Sunday.

Mkolo also touched on the need for the revival of historic townships such as Duncan Village and Mdantsane and the necessity for the economic advancement of all previously marginalised groups.

“We have a lot of land right here which belongs to white people who are no longer here which is not being used.

“We need to take this land and use it to improve our livelihoods and where we live. We must be a case study. We must be the first region to take land and return it to its rightful owners,” Mkolo said.

The ANC boss also called for a united ANC going to next year’s general and provincial elections.

“This is our opportunity to let the world know that the ANC is still in power and will continue to be in power even after the elections, which is something the nation can count on.”

Mkolo said although the ANC faced many challenges, if it had leaders who led without fear, then it would succeed.

Directing his words at the region’s first chair Zukiswa Faku, Mkolo said he presence was evidence that former party leaders wanted a united governing party.
