Bailed Turnbull back behind bars

- TYLER RIDDIN

Controversial Andrew Turnbull is behind bars again.

The East London born-andraised man was jailed two months ago in connection with possession of drugs, but was granted bail.

Randburg magistrate’s court senior prosecutor Yusuf Baba confirmed on Monday that Turnbull was again taken in – but for a new charge.

He said Turnbull appeared in the court but could not confirm the charges.

Turnbull would be seeking bail with his hearing postponed until Thursday.

This is the third time in about 10 weeks that the former East London resident has had a runin with the law.

In August he was arrested in Johannesburg on drug and ammunition charges.

Eight days later he was granted bail of R5,000, even though there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

This was explained as a miscommunication between the National Prosecuting Authority and police.

The warrant was held by the Beacon Bay police and was issued after Turnbull allegedly pointed a firearm at East London resident Anthony Traub.

Beacon Bay police had been looking for him since June 27.

All these encounters with law enforcement come after Turnbull was apparently videoed holding a woman before tossing her aside.

The Dispatch has spoken to at least two women who claim to have protection orders against him.

Calls made to Turnbull’s lawyer, Henry van Breda, went unanswered yesterday.
