As easy as Juan Two Three

- Dispatch Racing Editor

PORT Elizabeth’s top sprinter Juan Two Three comes into the main event of the day in a class of his own when he contests Race 2, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1 000m on the Fairview Polytrack tomorrow.

The Alan Greeff-trained son of Var, who has a record of 10 wins from 19 starts, comes back from a rest and should once again toy with his opposition if fit enough. His last race was on June 15 when he defeated Zip Line by 1,50 lengths.

Juan Two Three will carry top weight of 62kg but will have regular pilot Greg Cheyne aboard.

Running in the colours of Messrs CG & LF Scribante, Juan Two Three provides punters with a banker in the second leg of the BiPot and the first leg of the Place Accumulator.

Only seven runners are carded to face the starter.

Flight Captain, who will have Ryan Munger in the saddle for the Yvette Bremner yard, can take the honours if anything goes wrong with Juan Two Three. The son of Captain Al is a six-time winner from 30 outings and deserves the utmost respect.

Flight Captain was caught very late in his last race when he finished 0,25 lengths behind Seattle Flame over 1 200m. In his penultimate race he defeated Story of My Life by the same margin, also over 1 200m.

Karl Zechner rides Varsity Cup for the Greeff yard and the five-year-old son of Var cannot be underestimated. He won his last race easily, finishing 2,25 lengths ahead of Flight Captain with Cheyne in the irons.

Varsity Cup is a five-time winner from 15 starts and can win a race like this on his day.

Another Greeff-runner, Alfeo, is an above-average sort with three wins from seven starts and is also a Scribante-owned runner. He ran second to stable companion Breakfast Club last time and is set for further improvement.

In the final analysis the vote goes to Juan Two Three to record an 11th career victory with Flight Captain, Varsity Club and Alfeo next best.

What A Player, who will have Cheyne up for the Greeff yard in Race 5, offers punters a banker in all exotics. The daughter of What A Winter is the horse to beat and should notch up a second career victory for the Hartley SA (Pty) Ltd.

The eight-race card gets under way at 1240 with a Maiden Plate over 1 000m. Bremner’s Sixtythree can get punters off to a flying start with 4kg claiming apprentice Julius Mphanya in the irons.
