East London-born multi-talented singer and DJ Malibongwe Blom has signed a record deal with award-winning DJ Mobi Dixon’s record company, Top Chap Media.

“Blomzit Avenue” as Blom is affectionately known, said Mobi Dixon had heard a track that he was working on, liked what he heard, and then asked him to sign with his record label.

The offer came at the perfect time for Blomzit Avenue, who said he had struggled as an independent artist.

“Being a solo artist is difficult as you have to do everything yourself, all from managing yourself to marketing yourself as an artist, so it’s a relief for me, as I will be able to focus on my music and have all the other aspects of my music career taken care of,” he said on Thursday.

Mobi Dixon said he was happy Blomzit Avenue had signed with him, saying he was the third artist Top Chap Media had signed.

“We are kick-starting the recording company and this is part of my way to uplift Eastern Cape artists and give them a chance to perform and be exposed to a bigger platform,” said the East London-born hitmaker.

Blomzit Avenue is no novice in the industry and has been spinning the decks and entertaining locals for the past 10 years.

The musician said being an independent artist was challenging as his music did not do as well as he thought it would, which he said was partly due to not having a dedicated marketing team.

“My music played on mainstream media but did not do as well as I wanted it to do.

“It did not have a lasting effect and I suppose it was due to the fact that I could not market myself properly.

“I am at an advantage now as I am under a well-known household name, Mobi Dixon, and I believe this will open bigger channels for me,” he said.

Under the new record deal, Blomzit Avenue is going to release a debut single titled Rock Lights at the end of October, which features East London songstress Asanda Msaki Mvana.

He also confirmed that a national tour to promote his new single was being organised.
