R1,500 bail for Eastern Cape four
FOUR Eastern Cape people were arrested in Butterworth and Komani on Friday by the Hawks anti-corruption investigation team in collaboration with the Western Cape department of transport.
Western Cape hawks spokesperson captain Philani Nkwalase said Thabisa Mahlangeni, 42, Nomakorinte Zethu, 39, Vuyiswa Gwantshu, 46, and Lwandile Ndamana, 29, appeared at Bellville magistrate’s court on Monday for alleged fraud and corruption involving the issuing of vehicle roadworthy certificates.
“The Hawks anti-corruption investigation team in collaboration with the Western Cape department of transport traced and arrested them at the Butterworth and Komani vehicle testing stations on Friday,” Nkwalase said.
“The arrest of the four was preceded by the arrest of Andile Andrew Mlomzale, 47, a security officer at the airport vehicle testing station in Cape Town on September 28. Mlomzale allegedly redirected the particulars of Cape Town vehicles, mostly public, school transport and heavy duty trucks, to the two Eastern Cape vehicle testing stations without these vehicles being tested at any of the stations,” he said.
Nkwalase said he allegedly recruited clients, George Sauls, 58, and Abraham Neethling, 63, who were also arrested on September 26.
He said all four suspects were released on R1,500 bail with stringent conditions and are expected to appear alongside the three other suspects on December 3.
