PE trainers praised
PORT Elizabeth trainers have been lauded for their overwhelming response to the new – unscheduled – Fairview race meeting tomorrow.
“I am so impressed,” said Clyde Basel, Racing Executive of Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Ltd, yesterday.
“The response from the trainers in Port Elizabeth has been absolutely phenomenal.
“In less than 24 hours they have enabled us to finalise the declarations for an unscheduled meeting,” Basel said.
“With their response, they have shown that the racing industry can indeed stand together in a time of need. The PE trainers have come to the party when we needed them most and for that, we have to say thank you. The National Racing Bureau got their team together in a matter of hours to pull this together.”
Mark Kinsman, Betting Editor of Phumelela Publishing, yesterday confirmed that ComputaForm, the official racecard for the Fairview meeting, will be available for free online from Monday morning. One just needs to register on www.computaform.co.za to access the PDF and download.
The ComputaForm books will also be distributed to Gauteng TAB/Betting World outlets as well as the Fairview racecourse, and will be complimentary on a first come first basis while stocks last.
The moves are part of a scramble to rearrange race meetings after an electrical storm and heavy rain forced the abandonment of the Grand Series meeting at Turffontein.
The World Sports Betting Grand Series Leg 1 and 2, as well as the Grand Series Consolation, will now be run at Turffontein on Saturday, October 20.
The three “Grand” races will be staged as carded and will form part of the meeting now scheduled for Saturday on the Turffontein Inside track.
Other changes to the racing schedule are:
1. The race meeting scheduled for Tuesday October 16 at Turffontein on the Inside track will be moved to Thursday October 18 on the Turffontein Inside track.
2. A new race meeting will be staged on Tuesday October 16 on the Fairview Polytrack.
3. The Work Riders Race Meeting scheduled for Thursday October 18 at Turffontein will be moved to the Vaal racecourse on Tuesday October 23 to be run prior to the scheduled Durbanville meeting. The Work Riders Race Meeting will be run from 12 noon and the Durbanville “twilight” meeting will commence at around 3pm.
