Team bringing popular First Thursdays event to East London
Fusing good food, fashion and décor, Jules on Jarvis’s Julia Chemaly and Keagan Schlunz are collaborating with My Scattered Heart founder Reese Anderson to bring a First Thursdays-inspired event to East London this week.
Emulating the relaxed and arty atmosphere of the monthly events made popular in Cape Town and Johannesburg, Jules on Jarvis’s pop-up First Thursdays event will host seven local vendors selling bespoke, artisanal or handmade products.
“Artisanal, original and unique is what we’re all about, so it ties in perfectly with Jules on Jarvis and this event gives us the opportunity to push the boundaries and give East London something a little different,” said Jules on Jarvis coowner Schlunz.
Vendors will include Mudness Ceramics, Sarah May Floral Linen, Coconut Active EL, Woven Green Interiors, From the Heart Sterling Silver, EL Holster executive stylist Pauline Boswell and MSH, which will be launching their 2018-2019 summer collections.
From artistic handmade ceramics, quirky sterling silver jewellery, floral patterned napkins, table cloths and cushion covers, to Moroccan floor cushions, straw hats, swimwear and billowing dresses, the event is set to intrigue homemakers and fashionistas alike. The foodies among us will be happy to know that Jules on Jarvis chefs Schlunz and Chemaly will offer a special menu for the night.
Duck pancakes, mini artisanal ‘Napoletana’ pizzas, mini budda bowls, wine, beer and cocktails, including an interesting espresso martini are among some of the items that will feature on the menu. “We’re also going to be launching some new cocktails on the evening.
“We like to change things up often and keep giving customers something different,” said Chemaly.
While the event is hosted by Schlunz and Chemaly, Anderson is the ultimate co-ordinator, ensuring the planning of every detail was taken care of.
“We all had the same vision and bringing the First Thursdays concept to East London creates such a great platform to showcase local entrepreneurs and the amazing stuff they have to offer.
“Hopefully this will be the first of many First Thursdays pop-ups at Jules on Jarvis,” said Schlunz.
Anderson said: “I’ve been to the Cape Town First Thursdays often and have loved the way food, art and fashion have merged. The pop-up is going to be really festive and everyone is showcasing unique and highquality products.”
The event will be at Jules on Jarvis in Berea on Thursday from 5pm. Entry is free.
