Helping Grade 12 pupils navigate life after high school
One of the biggest questions that captures South Africans is: “Will I be able to get a job after the completion of my qualification?”
The completion of a qualification does not necessarily secure a good job. This is where Lovedale TVET College flourishes. Not only does the college support entrepreneurship, it provides skills for employability.
The college has been in existence since 1841 and offers courses to suit the artisan, pre-and post-matric student.
Support services such as Work Integrated Learning Office assists many students to find practical training after their studies. The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Rapid Incubator based on the Alice campus, in partnership with the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), assists students to nurture, develop and fund their small businesses.
An international exchange partnership with the Chinese government has seen 11 Lovedale students studying and working at various Chinese developments in 2018.
The college also has an International Skills for Employability partnership, under the auspices of the British Skills Council. This international partnership links Bridgend College in the South of Wales with Lovedale, to share best practices with regards to curricula, entrepreneurship and industry engagement.
Furthermore, Lovedale College has a Motor Trade Test Centre based at the Zwelitsha Campus for Engineering, allowing students who have completed their automotive apprenticeships to write their trade-test on campus.
It is thus safe to say that various support systems exist to facilitate the students’ entrance into the job market, and with the approved qualifications from the Department of Higher Education (DHET), Lovedale TVET College is one of the top choices for further studies in 2019.
