After operating for many years at Retail Park, Edee’s Hair Salon is opening another branch at Hemingways Mall on Friday.

The salon will be doing both ethnic and European hair.

Owner Edith Mugambe currently has a hair shop at Hemingways Mall, but felt there was need for a hair salon as well.

“Customers would buy wigs from my shop and then ask me where they could get it washed, while they went shopping,” said Mugambe.

The existing hair shop at Hemingways Mall was opened in November last year, specialising in imported wigs, Peruvian hair, Brazilian hair, closures, European hair, clip-on hair, men’s wigs and hair accessories.

“I also make my own custom-made wigs. It was always my dream to make wigs, I bought a special machine so I could do this.

“It’s a unique part of my business to be able to make custom wigs.”

Mugambe is a qualified nurse, but always wanted to open up her own hair salon.

As a little girl she would watch her aunt working on people’s hair in their family salon.

“When you grow up surrounded by something, it’s only natural that it will become part of your life as an adult. I love everything there is to love about hair.”

Mugambe admits that it was not easy in the beginning.

“I opened my first hair salon in Southernwood in 1999. There was lots I didn’t know about running a business. I made a lot of mistakes, especially because I didn’t have any experience.

“I decided to do a course in business management to enhance my business and this really helped me.”

At her salons, Mugambe ensures she hires only the best in their trade.

“It’s important for me to have the best hair stylists in my salons. I have employed staff who are excellent with plait work. Customer service is also important to me because people come to the hair salon to de-stress.

“Growing up I realised people always take pride in their hair. They always want to look good and if your hair looks good you will also be more confident,” she said.

Mugambe invites everyone to come and see the new Edee’s Hair Salon at Hemingways Mall. They will be having lots of specials from November 2 to 5.
