MEC redeployments delayed

- ZINE GEORGE

Human settlements MEC Mlungisi Mvoko and his fellow ANC provincial executive committee member Mncedisi Nontsele will form part of a high-level ANC delegation going to Cuba on Wednesday.

This will delay the cabinet meeting at which Mvoko is set to be sworn in as the new education MEC.

The Dispatch reported on Monday of the ANC provincial deployment committee’s plan to swear the party’s provincial treasurer Babalo Madikizela in as MPL. The bigger plan is to move Madikizela into Mvoko’s place as human settlements MEC, freeing up Mvoko to fill the late Mandla Makupula’s post as education MEC.

Insiders said Madikizela will be sworn in by the end of this week, but his promotion to the MEC position will be delayed until Mvoko returns from Cuba.

ANC provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi refused to be drawn into commenting on what the deployment committee decided, saying “all these issues remain ANC matters until processes are followed to the letter”.

However, he confirmed Mvoko and Nontsele’s visit to Cuba for a study tour that will run from November 8 to 18.

He said separate delegation of ANC leaders including transport MEC Weziwe Tikana would leave for China later this month.

Insiders said Madikizela will be sworn in by the end of this week as an MPL
