Ag please, daddy, take us to Vincent Park drive-in

Vincent Park’s old-school drivein is back this weekend offering a taste of nostalgia for some and a brand new and exciting experience for others.

The two feature films – animated action adventure The

Incredibles on Friday night and the 1987 classic Dirty Dancing on Saturday night – promise good times, laughs and happy memories.

“Following the success of our event in 2017, we have had so many requests from our shoppers that we decided to bring the magic of the drive-in back to East London,” said Vincent Park centre manager Joseph Parsley.

In 2017, the drive-in saw 1,000 people make their way to Vincent Park every night to enjoy the enchanting atmosphere.

“As a community-based mall which has been around since the early 1970s, many East Londoners share fond memories of Vincent Park. We’d like to create new memories within our community,” said Parsley.

“This is also an opportunity to thank our shoppers for their patience and loyalty over the past couple of months as we have re-tiled the mall and brought in many exciting new tenants,” he added.

Entry to the drive-in for both nights is free, but there is limited parking in front of the screen, with only 200 spaces available.

However, moviegoers will be happy to know that an additional picnic seating area has been added to the front of the parking space to accommodate more film enthusiasts.

This year an added feelgood element is that six of the Daily Dispatch and Johnson & Johnson Local Hero videos will be screened over the course of both nights.

“We’re going to show at least three Local Hero videos each night before the feature film. There are such lovely stories and the videos were produced beautifully,” said Vincent Park marketing manager Mariaan Hartwig.

Local Heroes include Mike Webb, also known as the Pink Fairy; Debbie Kleinenberg from CHOC and the late Nozie Mswi of Rising Sun Daycare.

Parking opens at 6.30pm. Marshals will be there to assist and ensure it runs smoothly. Both films begin at 7pm.
