Hundreds of locals and visitors will be flocking to the East London beachfront on Saturday for the Motsepe Foundation’s annual “Christmas With Our People” concert.

The free concert takes place on Saturday, with an array of local and national artists set to take to the stage.

The lineup for this event includes DJ Tira, DJ Maphorisa, DR Malinga, Distruction Boyz, Tipcee, Emtee, AKA, Riky Rick, Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta and Lady Zamar.

Sizwe Nzimande from the Motsepe Foundation said over the past three years, the foundation had held concerts in five provinces for an average of 200,000 people each year.

“The concert provides an opportunity for people who cannot afford to go to concerts during the festive season. It brings together South Africa’s loved artists under one roof to perform for those less privileged.

“The concert also provides a platform for young and upcoming artists from disadvantaged communities to share the limelight with national performers.

“This will provide an opportunity for young local artists to give their demos to the likes of DJ Tira, Cassper Nyovest and many other artists to listen to and help where they can.”

The foundation hosts two events annually in five cities – a toy handover and concert. On Friday, the Motsepe Foundation will be handing out toys to children from disadvantaged homes in East London.

Nzimande said: “The foundation’s National Christmas Toy Distribution initiative is a social outreach programme launched in 2011, to share the spirit of Christmas with children between the ages of 0 to 15 from mostly disadvantaged communities.”

According to Nzimande, the foundation has handed out almost a million toys to children who otherwise would have not received a toy for Christmas.
