East London came alive on Friday when multi-award winning DJ Black Coffee enthralled thousands of music lovers at the Buffalo Park Stadium with his exclusive performance.

The internationally acclaimed DJ performed for 90 minutes with cameo appearances by jazz musician Nduduzo Mkatini and East Londonborn songstress Msaki.

The Mthatha-raised DJ – real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo – who has just returned from a European residency tour in Ibiza and the US – started a national tour in East London.

Bhisho-born hip-hop artist Anatii also had the crowd jumping up and down with his electric performance.

Local artists Blomzit Avenue, Yoba, DJ Welo, Da Capo and DJ Sumbody also entertained the crowd.

#Coolerbox Mix DJ Welo on Metro FM from Mdantsane said performing in a show with Black Coffee was overwhelming, even for the second time.

“Being part of the lineup meant a lot for me. It was such an overwhelming experience,” he said.

The crowd was filled with youngsters including vibrant German and Dutch nationals Julia Luz and Eva Veldman.

Luzuko Ngumbela, back in East London for a month from Cape Town, said he had missed his hometown vibe.

“I enjoyed the performances, especially the local DJs like Welo, whom I played cricket with, and Blomzit, whom I went to school with.

“I am really proud of their success. Black Coffee is doing amazing work,” he said.
