Future Stars are on the move
The club has bold plans to go places in the SAB league with their talent
Future Stars, set to replace Taliban in the SAB League, aims to nurture talent in the Buffalo City Metro and act as a feeder to professional soccer clubs.
Stars team manager Samnkelo Ngwenya said there was an abundance of talent in the East London region and surrounds; hence they were looking to invest in young players that have potential to play professionally. He said starting at the developmental league was a calculated move.
“We are very fortunate that our vision has been bought by private business as well, like Buco. Initially we thought we’d be competitive next season, the main plan was for us to set up the club next season, but the boys are doing quite well,” said Ngwenya.
“In our first two games we managed to collect a single point. In our first game we were showing up to honour the fixture.
“And in our second game our boys were starting to understand each other and it’s only last week we’ve had a full week of training.”
Ngwenya also shared their short-term goals as they were looking to act as a feeder to Chippa and other PSL outfits.
“Now that vision of setting up has changed, we want to remain in the league and keep our status. Unfortunately we’ve inherited a club that has lost points.
“So really in terms of ambitions we want to retain our status mainly, but now we are turning away players.
“We think if we keep our head right we will not only contribute to football development in the city. If we feel that the team is not advancing enough. We should not withhold players that have talent. We’ll serve as a feeder so that we inspire other boys,” he said.
Ngwenya hopes other private business sponsor the club. “We are calling on private business and football lovers in general to come and join us and be part of this vision, and we are grateful to the management SA Football Association and Buco.”
The club chairperson, Xolani Witbooi said the deal made with Taliban management would be concluded by Wednesday.
Operations manager for Buco Eastern Cape, Vaughn Mitchum said the idea deserved to be supported and they were looking to make a meaningful impact with Future Stars.
