Follow Nel and Domeyer

THE Western Cape combination of trainer Andre Nel and jockey Aldo Domeyer stand broad in the way of local hopefuls at tomorrow’s Fairview meeting.

They brought five horses to Port Elizabeth and all of them have a winning chance for owner Sabina Plattner, who is set to have a profitable day.

Nel sends out Vomandla in Race 2, Crome Yellow in Race 3, Guilty Pleasure in Race 4, Straat-kind in Race 6 and Loadshedder in Race 7.

The best of the visitors seems to be Crome Yellow in the first leg of the Pick 6. His form makes him a banker in all exotics and he should get out of the maidens without much trouble.

Crome Yellow jumps from gate No 6 over the 1 600m trip.

His strongest opposition could come from African Java, Harrington Port and Master Newton. The main event of the day is Race 6, a FM 88 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1 000m. Only nine runners will face the starter, but the race is wide open.

Alan Greeff-trained Saltire is improving with each run and is looking for her fourth straight win.

The daughter of Var was impressive in her last start when she came with a strong late run to beat Princess Rebel over tomorrow’s distance. Greg Cheyne retains the ride.

Saltire is a three-time winner from five outings.

Straat-kind is also a serious contender and needs respect. She won three of her 12 races and came close in her penultimate start when she finished 0.20 lengths behind Fours A Crowd at Kenilworth last month.

Hewitson can seldom be ignored and therefore Mary O’ Reilly also comes into the picture.

She had two easy wins at Fairview before finishing fifth at Turffontein over 1 400m. Mary O’ Reilly is a talented sort and also comes into the race 2,5kg better off than last time.

Via Sacra, Joking and Star Angel are others to consider. Star Angel is a former Joey Ramsden charge who will make her debut for trainer Tara Laing.

Saltire gets the vote to finish ahead of Straat-kind, Mary O’ Reilly and Star Angel.

The eight-race card gets under way at 1240 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 800m.
