Flight fiasco leaves DJs seething

DJ Mahoota and Vetkuk are contemplating legal action against the organisers of the Metro FM Heatwave event in East London for failing to book flights for them.

The veteran duo said because of the no-show at the popular event where they were billed to entertain the crowd, they now appeared unprofessional.

However, event organisers 2 Kings said there was miscommunication with DJ Mahoota and Vetkuk.

The two DJs took to social media to vent their frustration after they could not make it to East London.

“We would like to extend our apologies to our supporters who had bought tickets so that they could come watch us perform. We regret having our fans disappointed.

“We will further investigate on other legal remedies that we can pursue as to deal with this matter properly,” they said.

In an interview with the Daily Dispatch, DJ Mahoota accused 2 Kings of being unprofessional in their treatment of the DJs.

“They did not even call to apologise for what had happened. It was such an embarrassment to have to go around to each airline looking for available seats,” he said.

The Ziwa Murtu hitmakers said they had been looking forward to performing in East London.

“We are really upset and disappointed with the 2 Kings promoters. They paid us to come and perform and when we got to the airport, our names never appeared.

“We called them to tell them that we were stuck and could not board our flights. They did not assist that much, just told us to make a plan,” said Mahoota.

“We went through all avenues to get to East London. We even organised a charter flight because we were worried about our fans who were expecting us to perform. We wanted to make it there.”

But 2 Kings promoter Lungile Mpharu said the pair could not make it to East London because of miscommunication.

“It was a simple mistake. We had organised a group booking for all the artists who were going to perform. They [Mahoota and Vetkuk] told us they were going to start in PE, and so we took them out of the group booking. There were no alternative flights on that day as that was the last flight.

“They even got a call from the Metro FM manager to explain to them the mistake that had happened. There were no other flights that we could find for them,” he said.
