All system are ‘go’ for the annual London Roots music festival
It is all systems go for the fourth annual London Roots Festival, which takes place at the Buffalo City Stadium on December 26.
“We are ready . . . and we look forward to seeing people come in numbers to enjoy the festival,” said event organiser Nikita Manqoyi. He said the London Roots concept catered mostly for professionals from the Eastern Cape who lived in the larger metropolitan areas for most of the year.
December was a perfect time to host a homecoming event and allowed them an opportunity to reunite with friends and family.
“We had a slow start [in 2015] and we realised that people from East London support those they know. We had to market ourselves and make ourselves known to the public and with that we have witnessed growth in numbers and support from the East London community.”
Manqoyi said they had kept an open mind about people who would be attending the event by putting together a variety of artists to cater for the different tastes people had.
“We are striving to create a good production, one which is worth the money the concert attendee will pay.”
The event will be hosted by choreographer and Idols judge Somizi Mhlongo co-hosted by Masinga and will feature national and local artists such as the legendary Trompies, Busiswa, Nomuzi, Kwesta, Riky Rick, Mozile, DJ Claude, PH Mshayi, Pastor the DJ, DJ Minty, Slogan Native Bands, Admix and LT, Stix, Urban Breeze and Thembi Mona.
“I am very excited about performing at the London Roots. East London is always abuzz during this time of the year and the energy is really dope. It’s going to be a whole lot of fun and I look forward to performing my new album,” TV show host and rap artist Nomuzi Mabena said.
East London’s Deejay Welo said he too was excited about performing at London Roots.
“I’m expecting a lot of numbers as the event has grown over the years. It’s now moving from Police Park to the Buffalo City stadium and from my side people can expect a killer set as usual,” he said.
The London Roots team will also be giving away a car. To qualify, you have to buy a general or VIP ticket at Computicket and you will be automatically entered into the draw.

For general access to the event, tickets cost R200 at Computicket, R250 at the gate and VIP at R600. Cooler box costs R100, strictly no glasses or bottles only cans are allowed.
