It all comes down to the weather, we have checked and it seems like there will be no rain, so we might have a few tables available

If slaving away in the kitchen cooking lunch this Christmas was not on your wish list, you might want to look at packing a picnic as most food establishments in the Border area are fully booked for Christmas lunch.

Last week, several accommodation establishments reported that they were fully booked for the Christmas holidays.

Of the 12 restaurants contacted by the Daily Dispatch on Friday, only two were still taking bookings for Christmas lunch.

Caitlin Ferrez, manager at Country Bumpkin in Beacon Bay, said they would have some open tables if it did not rain on the day.

According to Ferrez, all their indoor tables were fully booked and only some of the outdoor garden tables were still available.

“It will all come down to the weather, we have checked and it seems like there will be no rain, so we might have a few tables available,” she said.

The menu at Country Bumpkin will include a starter with a variety of options, including do it yourself salads, soup and bread, while the main course will give you options such as meaty stews and roast, as well as six desserts to choose from at R390 per person.

The Gallery Restaurant in Komani still has a few tables available for their buffet serving.

According to the Gallery manager, Charles Culbert, there were limited seats available.

“Whoever books and pays the fastest will get those seats,” he said. Adults pay R300, pensioners pay R275, children over five eat for R120 and under 5s eat for free.

Some of the popular establishments in the East London and Chintsa area said they had been fully-booked for some time.

Reservations at Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve’s Emthombeni Restaurant said all 180 seats had been booked out by October.

Southern Sun Hemingways Hotel’s Key Largo said they were fully booked in January already.

Waiter Amanda Phungulwa said most of their customers were guests from the hotel.

Other popular eateries such as Grazia, Chairman’s Bistro and Cafe Neo said they would be closed on Christmas day.
