BCM rolls out safe, fun campaign

The Buffalo City Metro has officially launched its safety season campaign with the theme “BCMM Capital of Fun, but safety first, 2019 is waiting for you”.

Mayor Xola Pakati said safety and law enforcemen­t divisions would be fully functional to ensure residents enjoy a safe festive season, but it all starts with each person being responsibl­e.

To ensure the safety of pedestrian­s and drivers, certain roads will be closed off on December 30 at 1pm until January 2.

For beach goers, the following roads will be closed:

● Inverleith Terrace at Esplanade;

● Cadwallan Street at Aquarium Road;

● Longfellow Street at Marine Terrace;

● Moore Street at Marine Terrace;

● Buffalo Park Drive at John Baillie Road;

● McJanet Drive at John Bailie Road;

● Link Road at Marina Glen; and

● Moore Street at Fitzpatric­k Road.

From the East London Aquarium to Marina Glen, including Moore Street to the Holiday Inn and the traffic circle at John Bailie Road, will be a traffic-free zone. Access to the popular Ebuhlanti braai area will be via Buffalo Park Drive/John Baillie into Link Road.

Cars can park at:

● Marina Glen/Ebuhlanti;

● Caravan Park next to the East cemetery;

● Border Cricket Grounds next to B field;

● Public open space at Tennyson and Fitzpatric­k Road;

● Public open space at Tutton Terrace and Fitzpatric­k Road;

● Orient Theatre parking; and

● Court Crescent and Cadwallan Road (emergency vehicles).

Taxis will have drop off and pick up zones at Buffalo Park Drive and Moore Street.

Buses will drop off and pick up at Buffalo Park Drive.

In Beacon Bay, Nyala and Kiaat Roads will be closed.

The following will be closed in Nahoon:

● Nahoon Reef Road at Epsom Road;

● Beach Road at Rosyth Street; and

● James Pearce Park. Access to Gonubie beach will be closed at:

● Main Road at Quinera Road;

● Riverside Road at Cane Street;

● Recreation Road at Meier Street;

● Main Road at White Street;

● Oceanway at Smith Street; and

● Quinera Road at Mzamomhle Location.
